Rohith Vemula has left us with hard questions.
Unsurprisingly, Rohith wrote in his suicide note,“My birth is my fatal accident.”.
Your Ministry had written that my Rohith and other Dalit students were anti-national extremists.
The commission's report had also concluded that no one else was responsible for Rohith's death.
Rohith wrote in his final letter“The value of a man
was reduced to his immediate identity and nearest possibility.
We challenge the central government-
we will not allow in JNU whatever it did in the case of Rohith.
In his final letter, Rohith had said,“The value of a man was
reduced to his immediate identity and nearest possibility.
The Joint Action Committee(JAC) of various student groups said Rohith was highly depressed due to suspension and expulsion from the hostel.
Rohith would hate to go to his grandmother's house because every time they went,
his mother would start working like a maid.”.
Rohith's death sparked off hundreds of protests across the country in which people demanded justice for Rohith and end to caste discrimination in all spheres of life.
From July, the university stopped paying Rohith his monthly stipend of Rs 25,000(excluding HRA),
with friends alleging that he was targeted for raising issues under the banner of Ambedkar Students Association(ASA).
